Little Italy Neighbourhood Info

Little Italy has earned the name due to the large immigration of Italians who came to Canada after WWII. From Dundas Street West to College Street to the south, and Ossington to Bathurst in the west, this real estate is an international haven. The Italian influence is certainly distinct but is also mixed with urban professionals, young people, and includes a Portuguese flavor.

The Little Italy homes and condos are just as eclectic in their styles and types as the mix of people who live in them. Multi-units are quite prominent here while there are fewer in the neighbourhood of Trinity-Bellwoods to the south. Victorian and Edwardian semi-detached houses are typical and often have added touches of individuality. In the inner-city, prime locations are relatively affordable with prices in this Little Italy neighbourhood reaching an average cost of $535,000.

Entertainment, dining, and shopping along the College Street strip and at the Clinton intersection is the heart of Little Italy. Some of Toronto’s most popular Italian/Canadian restaurants are found here as well as cafés, eateries, and lunch counters that remind their visitors of the neighborhood’s roots.

To meet the desires of the long-established residents, there are traditional bakeries, food markets, and neighbourhood retailers. For the more modern shoppers there are chic boutiques, stylish bistros, art galleries, and elite shops. Then too, there are the restaurants, cinemas, a Marriott hotel, and the shops in the glass-roofed galleria.

The location, the reasonable property prices, the great choice of homes, and the character and activity of living in the downtown area are all wonderful reasons to acquire real estate in Little Italy.
