The Yonge and Eglinton region has come a long way from its early beginnings as Canada’s largest grazing land for cattle in the 1800s, to be the thriving business and retail centre it has become today. Singles, businesses, and young professionals and their families come to establish roots among Yonge and Eglinton homes and condos on a regular basis.

In 1954, this area, formerly a part of the older Town of North Toronto, opened the north-south subway line and the migration began. A mall, restaurants, bars, two cinemas, a wonderful assortment of stores and shops, and a diversity of office and residential towers all make up this versatile part of Toronto.

Although many choose to live among the busy activities of the city’s core, just as many prefer the quieter life and choose scenic apartments, condos, townhouses, or detached homes on the close by side streets for their residence.

The styles and types of homes among the Yonge and Eglinton real estate are just as diverse as the people who live there. In the North Toronto area, just west of Yonge, are the stately and established tree-lined streets with Modernist to Victorian architectural homes in all sizes.

Those looking for the “fixer-upper” will find the intermittent three-bedroom, semi-detached for around $500,000. Yet, for about $1 million or more, Chaplin Estates offers Georgian or Tudor homes, but they are rare. Condos generally begin in the mid $200,000 range.

A large number of public and private schools are an appealing attraction for the younger professionals with families when considering real estate in the Yonge & Eglinton area. There is St. Monica’s Catholic Elementary, Marshall McLuhan Catholic Secondary, Forest Hill Collegiate Institute, North Toronto Collegiate Institute, and Northern Secondary schools.

Local Yonge and Eglinton homes and real estate property values are expected to rise since major new developments are in the future plans of this area of Toronto.
