On Yonge Street, in the very centre of the city is where you’ll find North York’s City Hall which holds an abundance of public events including the New Year’s celebration which is the largest. Next door is the Ford Centre for the Performing Arts building which hosts a great many musicals and plays.

Great shopping is also available at the two largest malls; Fairview mall located at Hwy 404 and Sheppard Avenue, and Yorkdale Shopping Centre at Dufferin St. and Hwy 401. Combined they offer a good variety of terrific restaurants and hundreds of shops.

Previously, the central area of North York was predominantly a suburb, although it is now a small version of Toronto’s downtown and filled with the office towers of major corporations. These include Xerox, Procter & Gamble, Cadbury Adams, Equifax, Nestle, Lindt & Sprungli, and others. The Canadian government maintains offices north of Sheppard Avenue while, although not directly on this corridor, McDonald’s of Canada is also located in North York.

Those choosing to live in the North York area have the best of both worlds. By riding the subway, they’re only minutes from Toronto’s downtown that’s filled with shops, entertainment, and restaurants while still living among the fabulous cost-effective townhouses and condo towers; many with an incredible view!
